Our History

Since its inception, Midstate Companies has consistently evolved and expanded to become the industry leader in cutting edge pavement recycling. Starting out with a single dump truck, the founding owner, Tom Johnson, formed Midstate Trucking in 1984. Tom’s relentless work ethic and vision allowed him to expand the business into a fleet of various belly, end, and dump trucks over the next few years. An insatiable desire for growth resulted in Midstate branching out into bituminous reclamation and the formation of Midstate Reclamation in the fall of 1991 with the purchase of Minnesota’s first asphalt reclaimer. This pivot to an asphalt recycling focus was felt industry wide and bituminous milling services were quickly added to Midstate’s business arsenal. Cold in-place recycling and soil stabilization services soon followed.

The Midstate team quickly outgrew their original building in Savage and were able to secure a location in Lakeville, Minnesota for its corporate office and shop in the spring of 1998. Although local projects proved quite plentiful, project opportunities allowed the team to expand westward. Jobs were acquired and completed in Montana, Wyoming, Iowa, and the Dakotas. To take full advantage of the projects in this region of the country, Midstate established a regional office in Spearfish South Dakota in late 2001.

Today, Midstate Companies operates in 13 states offering a variety of trucking and reclamation services. Midstate is extremely proud of its team and market share. Midstate is constantly evolving and continues to set the standard in the industry!
